We’re delighted to share that Kirsty Worden has been appointed Secretary of the Devon & Cornwall Branch of the Pyramus & Thisbe Society, the UK’s leading organisation for professionals working with the Party Wall etc. Act 1996. Kirsty’s appointment also includes a Fellowship of the Society – a mark of her considerable expertise in this specialist area. She joins Dennis Venn, who chairs the regional branch, and Sam Thompson, the branch’s Education Officer.

The Party Wall etc. Act 1996 provides a legal framework for preventing and resolving disputes in relation to:

  • Work to party walls (shared structures between properties)
  • Excavations near neighbouring buildings
  • Construction on or near boundary lines

The Act applies to both residential and commercial properties and places legal responsibilities on building owners who plan to carry out such works, including the requirement to notify adjoining owners and, in many cases, appoint a surveyor.

At Vickery Holman, our Party Wall team is one of the most experienced in the region, with extensive experience acting as appointed surveyors and as expert witnesses in more complex cases. We advise clients across the South West on how to comply with the Act, avoid costly disputes, and move forward with confidence.

Whether you’re altering a building, extending near a neighbour, or constructing on a boundary, it’s worth checking early whether the Act applies.

If you’re unsure, get in touch with Kirsty or Dennis Venn for clear, professional advice.
