18 Months In: A Journey of Learning and Development at Vickery Holman

It has now been over 18 months since I joined Vickery Holman in the Plymouth office, and my journey so far has been both rewarding and insightful. Since my last update, I have expanded my experience across different teams, improving my knowledge and understanding of the industry.

Over the last 6 months of 2024, I worked in the Business Rates team, where I assisted with business rates reports, checks and challenges. This role gave me a valuable insight into rating assessments and the complexities of navigating this area for clients. Alongside this, I spent some time in the lease advisory team, supporting initial reports and gaining hands-on experience negotiating rent reviews and lease renewals.

I am now back with the Valuation team and thoroughly enjoying it. My work has included valuing a wide range of property types including residential blocks of flats, HMOs, offices, industrial units, and retail properties. The variety of properties keeps every day interesting and continues to challenge me in the best way possible.

In addition to my role, I have been involved in organising Young Professionals events, our annual Garden Party, Christmas Drinks event, and the Market Review. These events have been great for networking and building relationships across the industry.

My focus for the next 12 months is shifting my focus to revising for my Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) and working towards my MRICS qualification. The experience and support I have gained at Vickery Holman has been invaluable, and I am excited to continue to develop my skills and knowledge.
