With Luke’s background of practical construction experience gained over a number of years prior to joining us in 2022, overlapped with his experience in professional practice as a Chartered Building Surveyor, Luke operates predominantly in the projects faculty. He provides a complete management service for refurbishment and repair schemes, ranging from initial surveys and design through to contract administration and works progress/quality management of live works. Luke is building up a report of projects involving Listed Buildings, as well as non-designated historic and traditional buildings and structures.
His recent projects include overseeing the complete external refurbishment of a multi-use ex-municipal warehouse building; managing the sympathetic re-construction of a historic retaining wall; obtaining Listed Building Consent for a Georgian Grade II Listed suburban residence requiring a range of repairs to 30 No box framed sash windows; surveying and designing the refurbishment of a coastal-facing mansard roof to a large apartment block; working in conjunction with a structural engineer to overcome significant concrete defects to a 1969-built concrete framed church; and coordinating a major city-centre office refurbishment scheme with works value in excess of £600k over a 4 month delivery period. Luke is currently managing a complicated external refurbishment scheme involving the replacement of a fire escape addition on a prominent Grade II Listed hotel.
Luke also regularly provides advice to clients on an array of building defects and produces a range of survey reports predominantly for commercial, ecclesiastical, and residential instructions. Luke is also the first point of contact for our quinquennial surveys. Survey types undertaken include commercial and domestic pre-acquisition surveys, PPMs/quinquennial church surveys, schedules of dilapidations, and reinstatement cost assessments for insurance purposes. Reinstatement cost assessment instructions include an extensive portfolio of property types, ranging from owner-occupied Listed buildings, to an £80m advanced manufacturing facility.
Over the last 2 1/2 years, Luke has dedicated much time to the re-establishment and development of RICS Matrics Cornwall, of which he is the committee Vice-Chair. He is also a keen boatman and devotes much of his spare time to sailing on various classic boats and racing with the Falmouth Working Boat fleet. Luke one day hopes to return his 18ft wooden motor launch to the water after a lengthy and almost total rebuild!
