Introduction
I joined Vickery Holman in January 2025 as a Graduate Surveyor within the Development Agency team, based in the Truro office, covering the South West. Since joining, I’ve been involved in a wide range of development-related work, gaining valuable experience in both strategic and immediate land disposal.
Project experience: appraisals, disposals and marketing
Over the past few months, I’ve assisted with site appraisals, disposals and the preparation of extensive marketing reports for landowners and developers. I have been involved with marketing development land, liaising with agents, planners and clients to help bring forward sites for residential and mixed-use schemes. Attending site visits and inspections has been a great way to see how projects evolve on the ground and to understand the complexities involved in the development process.
Understanding the development lifecycle
Working within the Development Agency team has given me exposure to the different stages of the development lifecycle from site identification and feasibility through to disposal and delivery. I’ve particularly enjoyed learning more about how local policy, planning considerations and market trends influence development opportunities and land values.
Graduate training and APC support
As part of my graduate training programme, I have gained experience in our Valuation service and I’ve also been involved in various in house CPD sessions and APC training days., I meet regularly with my Supervisor and Counsellor, which have been invaluable for developing my technical knowledge. The company’s supportive environment and group of graduates also undertaking the APC has helped me to settle in and progress towards sitting my APC.
Looking ahead
I’ve enjoyed my time at Vickery Holman so far, with the variety of work and the opportunity to work alongside experienced senior colleagues. I’m looking forward to continuing to grow my knowledge and the Development Agency team in the coming months.
