Overview
Our client, the occupier of a café in St Mawes, instructed Vickery Holman to review their business rates assessment.
Situation
The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) had used too high a rate per square metre in the valuation of the property.
Solution
We carried out an inspection and drafted a detailed “Challenge”, which we submitted to the VOA to request a reduction in rateable value.
Outcome
The outcome was the revaluation of the property, which treated the property as a restaurant valued on an overall basis, rather than a retail unit valued in Terms of Zone A. This resulted in savings for our client backdated to 1st April 2023.
