I have been with Vickery Holman for just five weeks now and, I have to say, the time has flown by! I have enjoyed settling in immensely; the team here in Truro have made myself and two other new starters feel extremely welcome.

I have eight years’ experience working in the property industry in central London, predominantly in residential lettings. I have recently changed my APC pathway from Residential to Commercial and, though the process must be self-led, I have had excellent support from Vickery Holman, which I know will continue throughout. My APC counsellor has a wealth of knowledge to share and has taken the time to meet with me and my fellow graduate surveyor in Truro on several occasions. I am currently working towards finishing my Masters at UCEM which is greatly complementing my day-to-day work and thus my APC progress.

In addition to me, Vickery Holman took on three new graduates in September. We were all invited to attend three internally run full-day seminars within our first month, which were excellent and provided a great introduction to the company and to the profession. Subjects covered included rating, rent reviews, lease renewals, valuation, report writing, leasehold enfranchisement and development appraisal.

My work so far has largely been focusing on rating, rent reviews and lease renewals. The beauty of being part of the GPS team is that we will have the opportunity to work on every competency for the APC from within a single department. Over time, I will also be introduced to valuation, development appraisal and loan security valuation. The team here are very proactive in guiding us as we go and on inviting us to all relevant inspections and meetings. I have had an excellent start and I am really looking forward to what is to come!
