Training
For many years Vickery Holman has been committed to the training of its staff, including providing opportunities to ensure surveyors complete their requirements under Continued Professional Development (CPD). This commitment to the training of our staff is reflected in the pro-active manner in which it is approached, with variety and flexibility encouraged. CPD subjects have included a 5-day residential management course, walk in IT studios as well as in-house technical briefings on a range of subjects.
Each member of staff has a training budget which they are encouraged to fully utilise. This includes support staff who’s training includes “property tasters” since they do not have the benefit of professional training.
On completing courses, staff are encouraged to provide a written summary for distribution to other members within the company which can also take the form of a promotional event to clients. Training includes regular meetings within divisions and across the offices, in regular company training days and weekends.
Graduate Scheme
So you want to be a Chartered Surveyor? Well you will have to complete your Assessment of Professional Competence first, which includes a minimum of 24 months structured training and a final assessment interview. For more detailed information refer to the RICS web link below.
Vickery Holman has always been committed to training Graduates since we regard them as the lifeblood of the company. Therefore substantial resources are allocated under the guidance of our Chairman Nick Holman, who is responsible for implementation of the policy.
Within three months of joining you will have a structured training plan with councillor and supervisor appointed, the latter usually being a recently qualified Graduate who can give you up to date and relevant advice. You will have constant support from supervisors as well as the rest of the staff, and at least once every six months a review of overall progress with your counsellor to ensure all competencies are covered and that interim and final assessments are completed on time.
Vickery Holman have two Directors actively involved with the APC assessment panels, both able to sit as Chairman or assessors, therefore no Vickery Holman graduate sits in front of a RICS panel without undertaking a mock interview first. All graduates sit at least two mock interviews with our in house panel ensuring all candidates are fully prepared before sitting the final assessment. All find it invaluable experience in preparing for the actual assessment and many say the Vickery Holman panel is realistic, ensuring a high pass rate is achieved.
The company structure enables development of specialist knowledge in a diverse range of subjects allowing graduates to move within divisions to ensure a variety of experience is gained. You will be working alongside other graduates also studying for their APC and we have good links with the local APC Doctors who are on hand to provide further support and guidance on the APC process.
Applications are accepted throughout the year, with graduate interviews normally taking place early in the New Year. If you are already in employment, but not happy with your training and progress, we would also like to hear from you.
