Budget announcement on school funding: how you can improve your chances to get your share!

Last weeks government budget announcement saw a provision of £536m in funding for education and at least £200m of this money is believed to be allocated to existing schools for building refurbishment work.

£320m of the funds are for the establishment of 140 new free schools.  Free schools are funded by the state, but can be set up by community groups, charities and academy trusts.

The hotly debated proposed new grammar schools are also included in the funding announcement, although the details of delivery and timelines presently remain vague.

Vickery Holman have been working in partnership with academy schools since 2011 and all other education establishments for over 20 years.  During this time we have established a specialist team of bid writers and our Head of Education, Simon Wheeler, has first-hand experience of teaching within a secondary education setting.  This insight provides him with a strong understanding of school requirements and a tried and tested formula for obtaining funding for a range of schools.

Simon comments, “We are well versed with EFA and DFE requirements and have an excellent track record of successfully securing funds for our clients and subsequent delivery of client building requirements on time and on budget.  Simply put, we understand the process and have delivered many projects working in partnership with schools to obtain the best and most sustainable options in order for them to develop their premises to nurture the growth of their students.”

In recent years Vickery Holman have worked with a number of schools in Cornwall, Devon and Dorset to identify, secure and build many projects of all kinds from renovating current classrooms, improvements to heating systems and the installation of toilet facilities to new build learning and break out areas.  Our involvement has been integral and we make it our mission to build a trusting relationship with the school and ensure that we deliver the best quality product within budgetary constraints and without taking up vast amounts of client time.

Results from the most recent bid rounds submitted before Christmas are due to be announced by the end of April 2017.

Any schools wishing to take part in the next round should be using this time to gather the evidence required by the EFA and DFE to bid for available funds.  If you would like to talk to Simon to discuss how we can help you via a free initial consultation, please contact for more information.
